You know when you find a place with that special something? It might be the ambiance, the food, the service. Well, that place for me is Gourmandise, The Bakery (250 South 300 East). It has this sense about it. Like it's always been around, offering the same great food, like an old friend. The menu is vast and all around delicious. The current favorite is the Thursday special, grilled panni with brie, ham, dried cherries, apples, caramelized onions, with oil and vinegar. De-lish! And if you have room, well you HAVE to make room for the amazing desserts. I pick up a tiramisu for B every year for his birthday. It's a tradition now and one we both are not willing to break. So if you find yourself downtown around lunch time or need to bring something to a dinner party, you can't go wrong with Gourmandise.

How can you stay no!
In a word, YUM! That is what I think of when I think of Takashi. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for some time and we finally went last weekend with our friends, The L's. We had a great time (we always do with them) catching up and enjoying the atomosphere and amazing food. I'm ready to go back!

Mmmmm sushi. Tell me where and when, and I'm there! B and I recentely went out for sushi with The P's, The L's, and The S's at Naked Fish (67 West and 100 South), where the old downtown Mikato used to be. The interior is modern and fun and the sushi was de-lish! Give it a try.
If you haven't tuned in to Lynne Rossetto Kasper's Sunday program (locally on KUER FM90 at 1:00), The Splendid Table, you must put it on your need to listen to list. She is an amazing radio personality with remarkable food knowledge. My favorite part of her program is her opening segment with Jame and Michael Stern.
They write a monthly column "Two For The Road" for Gourmet magazine and trek all around the country finding hidden food treasures. They have even highlighted two of Utah's own, Hire's Big H (Salt Lake) and Mom's (Salina). If you are on a road trip you may want to see if they're found any eateries where you are headed.
My darling friend Heather reminded me the other day of a great website. During these tough economic times we all have to watch our pennies which is why you should visit restaurant.com.
The deals change so come back if you don't see any that suits your fancy. I just purchased two $25 gift certificates, one for Tiburon (8256 South 700 East) and Aristos (224 South 1300 East). On restaurant.com they were only $12.50 each BUT I found a discount code online which gave me 80% off the gift certificates. Soooooo I got two $25 gift certificates for $5! Type in MENU in the discount code and you're set. This code only lasts until March 15th so you better hurry.

I went to dinner last night at Trio with a few friends (thank you Brian and Justin, I had a great time). I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and order something different and boy was I a happy camper. I usually order the trio ny steak but I decided to order the lemon chicken salad (1/2 order) and the pizza special (ricotta, artichoke hearts, mozzarella, and spinach). Of course I could not, not order (two negatives, ha ha) the toll house pie.
It was a great night re-connecting with some great friends and connecting with some new favorite foods.

I usually go to Yum Cha/Dim Sum with my parents on Sunday but yesterday I went with my girlfriends. I felt a bit of pressue since I was the only one that speaks Chinese but I got us through! Whew! Any-who, for those of you who have never had Dim Sum, it's kind of like appetizers and tapas for breakfast. Dim Sum, literally means "touch of the heat or to touch the heart." Ladies come to your table with carts filled with little plates of meat, vegetables, seafood, and dessert. You don't have to know the dishes names, just ask them to lift the lids and you can peek to see what you like. I think the best place in town is The New Golden Dragon (1518 South Main). Hope you give it a try!
